Meteors and a comet attract nighttime skywatchers

CRESTLINE – (INT) – Stargazers may have missed an opportunity but others may be coming.

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS soared across the San Bernardino Valley on October 12th coming within 44 million miles of Earth.

Bruce Herwig of Yucaipa stopped on Highway 18 near Crestline and captured the comet on video.

The comet likely traveled from the outer reaches of the solar system, made its closest transit past the Sun and then headed back on September 27th.

There’s more to come. The Taurid meteor shower will peak on November 11th. Stargazers can expect to see five to 10 meteors per hour during the peak.
