The body of a man believed to be a missing Scots pensioner has been recovered from the River Clyde more than a month after he vanished.

David Simpson was reported missing from Lanark on Sunday, September 8. He was last seen in the St Leonard Street area of the town that morning at around 11.30am.

His disappearance sparked a major police search with an appeal launched at the time to trace the 77-year-old. However, officers have confirmed the tragic news today, that a body was recovered from the water at Crossford, Lanarkshire.

Police say the death is being treated as unexplained but it is not believed to be suspicious. Formal identification is yet to take place but officers have informed Mr Simpson's family.
