Man charged after woman suffers serious injuries in Scots woods 'attack'

A man has been charged after a woman suffered serious injuries on a woodland path in a Scots town.

The 26-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after she was allegedly attacked in a wooded area near a golf club on Abbey Road in Dalkeith, Midlothian. Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised on the evening of Friday, October 4.

Ambulance crews attended and the woman was rushed to hospital for treatment to serious injuries. Police quickly launched a probe, and officers have now confirmed a 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the serious assault.

A 32-year-old man who was earlier arrested in connection with the incident was released pending further enquiries. Police say their enquiries remain ongoing and they have appealed for further information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the serious assault of a 26-year-old woman near Abbey Road in Dalkeith on the evening of Friday, October 4, 2024. Enquiries are ongoing and there will continue to be an increased police presence in the area.
