Outlander’s Sam Heughan ecstatic as role away from Jamie Fraser lands major achievement

Scottish star Sam Heughan has been celebrating his latest role away from Outlander scoring a major award nomination

Outlander’s Sam Heughan is over the moon after his latest TV project was nominated for a TV Choice Award.

Late last year, he starred in the steamy and thrilling drama The Couple Next Door on Channel 4 in the UK and coming soon on Starz in the US.

He portrayed traffic cop Danny Whitwell opposite Jessica De Gouw as Becka Whitwell, the neighbours of couple Evie Greenwood (played by Eleanor Tomlinson) and Pete Thomas (Alfred Enoch) who move in next door.

After a night of passion together, their friendship takes a sinister turn when Evie and Pete become more and more embroiled in Danny and Becka’s unconventional dynamic.

Sam recently took to Instagram to share the show’s exciting achievement to his 4.3 million followers.

“Excited to share that the Couple Next Door Season 1 has been longlisted for Best New Drama Series for the TV Choice Awards 2025!” he wrote.

He then encouraged his fans to vote for the series, adding: “Every vote counts, so I’d love for you to go to Tvchoicemagazine.co.uk/vote and support the show!”

While the majority of Sam’s followers know him best as the rugged Highlander Jamie Fraser in Outlander, they were still overjoyed to see his other projects getting some recognition.

One fan replied: “Awesome!! Congratulations I LOVED IT!!!! I was able to watch it on VPN when it first aired...You've got my vote, ALWAYS.”

“Congratulations! Hopefully a season 2 will happen,” another said.

“Voted yesterday having just rewatched still streaming on Channel 4 got to vote again ain’t I,” a third replied.

However, others expressed frustration that The Couple Next Door has yet to be released in the US despite airing in the UK almost a year ago.

“When does it air in the USA!!!?????” one commenter demanded.

Another said: “Congratulations! Still waiting for it to come to Starz in US!” And a final fan replied: “Haven't seen it yet here in the US but would still vote for it if I could. Good luck! I hope it wins!”

A US release date on Starz is still currently unconfirmed, but it’s expected to air before the end of 2024.

There are also no current plans to continue The Couple Next Door with a second season, though this could change if its US release is successful.

The Couple Next Door is available to stream on Channel 4.

Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
