Blaze breaks out in Edinburgh flat as emergency services shut down road

A major road in Edinburgh has been closed off after emergency services were called to a fire within a flat.

Scottish Fire and Rescue service (SFRS) were called to Earl Grey Street in Edinburgh at around 8:45pm on Thursday, after reports that a blaze had broken out.

Pictures from the scene show Lothian Road closed off with a number of emergency service vehicles in attendance.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed they were called to a fire, saying: "We received a call at 8:45pm to a fire within premises at Earl Grey Street in Edinburgh.

"The fire has been extinguished but we remain at the scene securing the area.

"Four pumps and one patrol appliance were dispatched. There are no reports of any injuries at this stage."
