Actor David Tennant admits intense family struggles give him a 'headache'

Doctor Who actor David Tennant has admitted that dealing with a busy family life can be a 'lot' and can be a 'massive headache' as he opened up to Fearne Cotton

Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant has admitted some parts of his family life give him a 'headache' as he opened up to Fearne Cotton on the latest episode of her Happy Place podcast.

Asked if he gets overwhelmed with having so many people in his house, David opened up about his family life, saying: "It's a lot, five kids is a lot, and they're the full age range, 22 all the way down to four, so it's never a quiet house and it's never not busy. There's always someone to be taken somewhere, or picked up or dropped off."

But the 53-year-old claimed that he enjoys the many positives that come with having such a large family: "That can be wonderful and life affirming and joyous and it can be a massive headache as well. But they're all great and I think they're all brilliant."

The Bathgate-born actor also added that his youngest children have affected his sleeping habits, saying: "I'd love to sleep past 6am."

Fearne jokingly quipped that 'it's never going to happen', before David replied "Surely it's going to happen eventually. Doesn't it happen eventually?"

Speaking about how he balances his family life with his work life, David added: "Sometimes when it works (the family vs work life balance) it's wonderful, but it also means the juggling is never easy, you never feel like you've got it right. And, it's a sort of constant churn as well as a constant delight."

David has been a regular on our screens for decades, and has picked up an array of awards to acknowledge his acting prowess, but his possibly his biggest crowning achievement came when he landed the role of Doctor Who in April 2005. And, coincidentally, before he became the 10th actor to play the character, his father-in-law, Peter Davison played the fifth Doctor between 1982-1984.

Speaking about what he thought of Doctor Who before landing the dream role he said: "I was obsessed with Dr Who. I loved it more than I loved anything else and it was a huge influence on me wanting to become an actor. And when I was a kid, I thought one day I will play that part, specifically that's where I'll end up."
