Tribute paid to Linwood motorcyclist who died in motorway crash

Police have now named the man who died in the crash at the end of last month.

A man from Linwood has been named as the tragic casualty in a motorbike crash that took his life.

James Martin, 45, died after being involved in a crash while on his Harley Davidson motorcycle on the M74 near Abington on Friday, September 27.

James’ family have asked for privacy while they grieve their devastating loss. Speaking to the media to advise of that position, they paid tribute to the “proud motorcyclist”.

Their statement reads: “We would like to thank Lanarkshire Road Policing and everyone who stopped to help and all other emergency services who attended.

“James was a proud motorcyclist and will be missed by everyone who knew him.”

The incident happened around 6.40pm near junction 13, northbound, and involved a black Harley Davidson motorcycle and a blue Ford Focus car.

Emergency services attended, but Mr Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver was not injured.

Police Scotland sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Martin. His family has asked for their privacy to be respected at what is a very difficult time for them.”
