Peyton's grandmother, Tracy Davis, shared a poignant tribute online alongside a photograph of her granddaughter, writing: "My beautiful granddaughter Peyton sky Davis we all love you. Rip baby girl fly high."

Speaking of their devastating ordeal, the grandmother disclosed how the family remained oblivious to the investigation surrounding Peyton until receiving a fateful telephone call from a Detective Scott asking if Peyton was with her son. That led to authorities searching where he was staying.

"It hurts so much. That we can't hold her, we can't give her the love that we shared for her. We didn't know any information. We didn't know what was going on until Detective Scott called my son and asked him if Peyton was in his procession. They had the police come down here and search where he was staying at the time."

Through tears, Tracy recounted to local news site Ktxs how Peyton's mother would often connect via video calls for her to see her granddaughter but these calls ceased abruptly. It was only later that they received the crushing confirmation from the local Abilene Police Department that Peyton was no longer alive.

"I was like oh my God," Tracy said. "I read the stories and everything. I don't get to see my girl anymore. I just started crying."

Tracy is now questioning why Peyton's parents let the tragedy happen, asking: "Why not call for help when you noticed she was gone," Why did you put her in a shed? Why did you put her in a lake? Peyton, we love you so much. You were our world, and you're going to be our world no matter what. One day we'll be with you again and I will get to hold my baby."

Deputies who responded to a report of a death at the home found the girl in a bathroom and described her body as "emaciated to a skeletal state," according to a criminal complaint filed in Boone County Magistrate Court.

The complaint detailed that the teenager suffered from an eating disorder, leading to "overwhelmingly visible conditions" and severe physical ailments; however, it was alleged that the mother neglected to obtain medical treatment for her daughter for a period of at least four years. During this time, Miller was receiving homeschooling.
