Liam Payne had 25 injuries after falling to his death from the balcony of his hotel room in Argentina, an autopsy in the South American country has revealed. The 31-year-old was holidaying in Buenos Aires, the country's capital city, with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, when tragedy struck on Wednesday.

And police officers investigating his death have now said the former One Direction star died because he "jumped from the balcony of his room". The Argentinian authorities released information following his heartbreaking death, with an official statement given to The Associated Press.

The Mirror reports forensic experts determined "the 25 injuries described in the autopsy are compatible with those caused by a fall from a height".

They added Liam had no "defensive type" injuries and the wounds on his body were "vital and produced at the same time as each other" concluding "the intervention of third parties would be ruled out," according to Argentinian outlet La Nacion.

A preliminary autopsy indicated Payne died from "multiple traumas" leading to "internal and external bleeding" as a result of the 40-foot descent from the third floor of the hotel.

Responding to an emergency call made just after 5pm local time, authorities raced to the scene, having been alerted to an "aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol," as stated in the report to AP.

Alberto Crescenti, chief of Buenos Aires emergency medical services, said Liam suffered an immediate death as a result of sustaining multiple injuries, including a skull fracture.

He explained: "Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life.

"Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death." Liam's One Direction bandmates were "completely devastated" by the news.

Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik said in a statement: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say.

"But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.

"For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
