Motorcyclist who died on M74 crash named as family pay tribute

James Martin has been identified as the motorcyclist who died in the M74 crash on Friday.

The family of the motorcyclist who died in a crash on the M74 near Abington on Friday have issued a loving tribute as his identity is revealed.

James Martin, 45, from Linwood has been named as the rider who sadly passed away in the collision

His family have asked for privacy but they have issued the following statement: “We would like to thank Lanarkshire Road Policing and everyone who stopped to help and all other emergency services who attended.

“James was a proud motorcyclist and will be missed by everyone who knew him.”

The incident happened around 6.40pm near junction 13, northbound, and involved a black Harley Davidson motorcycle and a blue Ford Focus car.

Sadly, James was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver was not injured.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Martin. His family has asked for their privacy to be respected at what is a very difficult time for them.”
