Tributes flood in for 'lovely' Glasgow woman after murder probe launched following death

Tributes have poured in for a woman who was found dead in Glasgow on Tuesday afternoon. Sandie Butler was found seriously injured after police were called to a report of a disturbance on St Mungo Avenue in the Townhead area of the city.

The 40-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later. Following a post-mortem examination on Wednesday, detectives confirmed they are treating the death as murder.

Following the shock news, friends took to social media to pay tribute to Sandie. Lorraine Grant wrote: "Omg Sandie, I'm so so sorry to hear this. I'll never forget the help you gave my sister, my thoughts are with your family and friends at this sad time xxx"

Charmain Hunter added: "Omg no not Sandie she was such a lovely person. I met her the day she came to Ness and kept in touch since. Oh doll, my heart breaks for u pet. RIP Sandie, 'til we meet on the other side xoxoxo"

Maud Skieff chimed: "Really sad hearing this. What a lovely girl. Rest in Peace. Sending condolences to her family and friends x"

Detective Chief Inspector Lynsey Watters, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and an extensive investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death.

“There remains an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues. We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything around the time of this incident to please contact police.

“In addition, members of the public are asked to check their private CCTV or dash-cam footage as this may be significant in assisting us with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting incident number 1661 of 29 October, 2024. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.

Detectives have also set up a website that gives members of the public access to a form to send information anonymously directly to the Major Investigation Team.
