Bomb squad scrambled to Scots factory after 'device' discovered

Workers at the Malcolm factory in Linwood were evacuated following the discovery.

A bomb squad has been scrambled to a Renfrewshire factory after a "device" was found nearby.

The discovery of the suspected "old ordnance device" was made at the Malcolm plant in Linwood at around 9am today.

Workers at the Burnbrae Drive factory have since been evacuated from the premises, with police closing local roads, Glasgow Live reports.

The Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) has been "made aware" of the situation and emergency personnel are now on the scene.

A spokesperson said: "Around 9.05am on Tuesday, September 24, police were called after a device - thought to be an old ordnance device - was found in Burnbrae Drive, Linwood.

"As a precaution, a cordon has been placed around the area and one local business has been evacuated.

"The EOD - Explosive Ordnance Department - has been made aware. Emergency services remain at the scene. Local roads in the area have been closed."
