David Walliams confirms he 'fell for' Neighbours star Natalie Imbruglia

David Walliams has opened up about his feelings for former Neighbours star Natalie Imbruglia, admitting that he fell for the singer 'like a ton of bricks' but she saw him as a 'gay best friend'.

David Walliams, the Little Britain star, has admitted to falling "like a ton of bricks" for Natalie Imbruglia, the former Neighbours actress turned singer. However, his feelings were not reciprocated as she firmly placed him in the friend zone.

The pair, who have been friends for years, were often seen together in London in 2015, fuelling speculation of a romance. This was around the time when David had just separated from his wife, Lara Stone.

Now, the 53 year old comedian has revealed that he was deeply in love with 49 year old Natalie, but she never saw him in the same light. He said: "She's very much friend-zoned me. You know when that happens, that you have a huge crush on someone and you sort of imagine being married and what your kids look like and all that sort of thing? And you're just completely friend-zoned."

He went on to say that Natalie, who rose to fame playing Beth Brennan on Ramsay Street in the 90s, viewed him more as a "gay best friend" due to his flamboyant nature and sense of humour.

David added: "We didn't go on any dates. We just became very good friends and we hung out together. But you know, it's hard not to kind of fall for her like a ton of bricks because she is amazing. I think I'm seen as the sort of gay best friend by a lot of people", reports the Mirror.

When asked on Australian radio show Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Nova 96.6 why he thought Natalie had friend-zoned him, he responded: "Well, look at me. Let's be honest, you can do a lot better."

Over the years, David has been linked with an array of women. He dipped into romance with Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, now aged 52, had a connection with model Abi Titmuss, 48, was seen with Made in Chelsea’s Ashley James, 37, and had an encounter with Norwegian beauty Sylvia Flote, 41.

The identity of a mystery woman he once dubbed Miss X, who left him heartbroken, turned out to be the TV star Lisa Snowdon, also 52. In matrimony, David joined Dutch model Lara, now 40, in 2010, but they went separate ways after five years; they share a son Alfred, aged 11.

Professionally, he's reuniting with his 'Little Britain' sidekick Matt Lucas, 50, for new TV ventures. His stint as a judge on Britain's Got Talent came to an end in 2022 following an apology for "disrespectful comments" made about contestants during filming breaks.
