Police have released details surrounding Liam Payne's death after he reportedly fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

The 31-year-old tragically passed away at the Casa Sur Hotel in Palmero on Wednesday night. Cops have confirmed that a 911 call was made from the hotel. It's claimed in the call, police were reportedly alerted to reports of 'an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol'. When they arrived at the scene, a loud bang was then reportedly heard from an inner courtyard.

Paramedics were seen arriving at the hotel at around 5pm local time. The One Direction star was found with 'very serious injuries' which meant there was 'no possibility of resuscitation', reports Manchester Evening News.

Police confirmed that he had fallen from a third floor balcony. In a statement given to the AFP agency, officers said: "Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo."

It is understood that the singer's body has since been transport to a local morgue. Meanwhile, the Foreign Office (FCDO) confirmed it is in contact with authorities in Argentina 'regarding reports of the death of a British man'.

But a spokesperson for the FCDO declined to comment any further, including on the identity of the man involved. After the shocking news, pictures showed devastated fans gathering outside the hotel after police cordoned off the area with forensic investigators seen entering and exiting in white protective suits and blue gloves.
