'Much-loved grandad' killed in crash between bus and three cars as family pay tribute

A grandad who died following a crash between a bus and three cars in Lanarkshire has been named by police. Francis (Frank) Hooper, from Airdrie, died following the collision in the town centre at around 3.25pm on Friday.

Emergency services raced to the scene after being alerted to a car having collided with a bus and two other cars on Stirling Street. Ambulance crews attended and Frank, 58, was rushed to hospital for treatment. Sadly, he died a short time later.

His heartbroken family have been left devastated by the news and they have now issued a statement through Police Scotland.

They said: "Frank was a much loved husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him."

Frank's family have asked for privacy while they come to terms with the news. Officers are continuing to appeal for information and they've asked anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

Road Policing Sergeant Nick Twigg said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Hooper. Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and anyone who has not already spoken to officers is asked to contact us via 101, quoting incident number 2154 of Friday, October 11, 2024.”
