A British teenager has tragically died after having a meal with her family while on holiday in Rome. The 14-year-old girl, named by Italian media as Skyler, was on a week-long break when the tragedy happened last week.
The family, who travelled to the Italian capital to visit museums and archaeological sites, were staying in the Gianicolense neighbourhood. On Thursday, October 24, Skyler, her parents, and her two siblings decided to have pizza as their first dinner in Italy.
However, just 15 minutes after the meal at a restaurant named 'I love pizza kebab', which is located close to their B&B, the teen began feeling ill, reports the Mirror. Skyler, who has a peanut allergy, felt her throat tightening and had difficulty breathing, while her heart rate increased and she felt tremors through her body.
Her worried parents tried to help and also asked staff at their B&B to come to their aid. The staff then called the emergency services, who rushed to the N&B, but when paramedics arrived they found Skyler unconscious.
The medics tried to resuscitate Skyler and bring her to nearby San Camillo hospital, however she sadly died of anaphylactic shock even before reaching the hospital, Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported.
The publication reported that the British family were planning to visit the Vatican Museums the following, day before heading to the Colosseum and the Imperial Fora.
