Cyclist taken to hospital after being hit by car on Paisley road

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision.

A cyclist was rushed to hospital after being knocked down by a car on a Paisley street.

The 23-year-old man was hit by the vehicle on Brediland Road in Foxbar on Sunday night around 9.25pm. He was injured and taken to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment. The motorist was uninjured.

Police closed the road for hours while collision investigation work was carried out by officers. Enquiries into establishing exactly how the incident happened are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Paisley Daily Express: “Around 9.25pm on Sunday, October 6, officers received a report of a crash involving a cyclist and a car on Brediland Road, Paisley.

“A 23-year-old man, the cyclist, was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment. The road was closed but later reopened. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Last month, responding to complaints from residents, officers from Renfrewshire local problem solving team attended Brediland Road to conduct high-visibility checks following concerns about drivers speeding along the road.

In July, speed cameras were installed on the road at its junction with Greenways Court, near St Paul’s and Brediland primary
schools.

The move came after the death of Jim Paterson, 63, who died when he was hit by a vehicle on Brediland Road just after midnight on Sunday, November 27, 2022.
