A Harare woman was Wednesday taken to court following her arrest on allegations of threatening to kill businessman Brain Murphy who reported a case of perjury against her.

Elizabeth Parirenyatwa Mucheche appeared before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi who remanded her in custody to Friday for a bail hearing.

She is facing charges of perjury and threatening to kill.

The court heard Mucheche claimed that she was being led by the late spirit medium Mbuya Nehanda to claim the estate that was stolen from her by Brian James Rhodes.

Appearing for the state, Rufaro Chonzi had applied for the matter to proceed in terms of the Mental Health Act.

Mucheche’s lawyers opposed the application.

However, Mangosi said she must be mentally examined.

According to the State, sometime in October 2022, Mucheche who is not related to the deceased Brian James Rhodes or legally appointed as an executor of the deceased’s estate generated a fake power of attorney which she claimed had been signed by Anne Rhodes.

However, the power of attorney was signed after Anne’s death.

On the second count of threatening to kill the complainant, the court heard that sometime in July 2024, Mucheche met Murphy and threatened to kill him after he had filed a case of perjury against her at Highlands police station.
