Maruti Suzuki will debut in the affordable compact MPV segment in 2026; new-gen Triber and its Nissan derivative are on the cards

The compact MPV segment is currently very small in India with only a single car i.e. the Renault Triber. With decent sales in the bag, Renault is planning to launch the new-generation model of the compact MPV and the launch of its Nissan derivative is also confirmed. In addition to this, Maruti Suzuki is preparing to debut in this market space with a new product, codenamed YDB. In this article, we will look at the 3 upcoming affordable MPVs in India.

1. New-Gen Renault Triber

Renault launched the Triber in the Indian market in 2019 and the MPV is yet to get any major updates since its debut. Currently the most affordable 7-seater offering in the country, the MPV received a minor feature update for the year 2024 in January and it is priced from Rs. 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

To keep the momentum going, the French carmaker is preparing to launch the new-generation model of the Triber and we expect it to arrive sometime in the year 2025-2026. While the details about the new-gen Triber are scarce at the moment, the MPV will benefit from a new design, and updated cabin layout with new features and a new platform could also be a part of the package.

2. New Nissan MPV

Nissan is set to introduce a new affordable MPV in the Indian market. As per the reports, the compact MPV will be based on the upcoming next generation of the Renault Triber, measuring just below 4 metres in length. We expect the Japanese carmaker to make significant changes to the package to differentiate it from its Renault counterpart.

However, the dimensions, features as well as the seating arrangement could be quite similar. In terms of pricing, it will likely be positioned at par with the Triber and will use the same powertrain as well as underpinnings. The upcoming Nissan MPV will debut in India soon after the launch of the new Triber.

3. Maruti Suzuki YDB Compact MPV

Expected to debut in the Indian market by 2026, the upcoming new compact MPV from Maruti Suzuki will be positioned below the Ertiga. Codenamed YDB, the four-wheeler will be based on the Suzuki Spacia sold in the international markets. The 7-seater MPV will likely measure just under 4 metres in length.

The upcoming compact MPV will rival the likes of Renault Triber in the domestic market and will be sold via the brand’s Nexa dealership chain. Under the hood, expect the MPV to use the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine that debuted in the new-gen Swift.
