Stuart Pearce makes cheeky Nottingham Forest title 'tip' quip amid Arsenal rethink

by · NottinghamshireLive

Nottingham Forest great Stuart Pearce has cheekily tipped his former club for a tilt at the title.

The Reds are eighth in the Premier League table ahead of Friday night’s clash with East Midlands neighbours Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Victory over Steve Cooper’s side would lift Nuno Espirito Santo’s men up to fifth.

Nuno and his squad are determined to keep their feet on the ground given the season is still very much in its early stages. But Pearce has been impressed with the start Forest have made.

The former Reds player and manager previously had Arsenal down to end the campaign as champions. But he has joked Forest’s excellent form has him rethinking that prediction.

“I tipped Arsenal to win the league at the start of the year. I think there’s a long way to go still,” Pearce said on talkSPORT in a discussion about the Gunners.

Asked if he had changed his mind about Mikel Arteta’s team, he quipped: “Nottingham Forest would be my tip now! They’re charging.”

The Reds have already picked up some big results this term, having beaten Liverpool at Anfield and drawn with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. They claimed their first home win of the campaign on Monday night when they toppled Crystal Palace 1-0, and they will now look to make it seven away games unbeaten when they face the Foxes.

“It is not about the table, it is about the performances - that is what really matters,” Nuno said ahead of the match. “The table is not important at all in this situation. What we want is to go to Leicester and compete in the same way we did here at home and previously against Chelsea, because the games are always very hard and demand a lot from us.

“Our bar is high, so we want to keep going. But what guides us is not the table.”
