Visitors at Alton Towers were rushed off a popular rollercoaster following an emergency evacuation. The unexpected incident, believed to have been initiated by a fire alarm, left many in shock as alarming footage of the event was circulated online.

One social media user posted: "Wicker Man at Alton Towers being evacuated due to a fire alarm." Another remarked on the coincidence: "You can't make this up, the fire alarm has triggered again."

This is not the first time for such an evacuation from this ride; a previous situation happened earlier in the year when the same alarm sounded on July 26, reports the Mirror. In a statement, an Alton Towers spokesperson said: "Operations on Wicker Man were paused after reports of smoke in the ride area. Our technical team swiftly attended to the smoke and followed well-rehearsed procedures to quickly resolve the issue. Wicker Man is constructed with treated wood which inhibits fire ignition."

The spokesperson further explained: "At this stage we believe the cause of the smoke was the result of a foreign object. The safety of our guests is our top priority and the ride will be closed until further notice while we carry out essential maintenance."

Wicker Man, reaching speeds of up to 44 mph, holds the title as the UK's first newly constructed wooden coaster in over twenty years. The official website shares details on the ride, noting: "Wicker Man was constructed on the site of a previous attraction called 'The Flume'. The ride features a soundtrack created by the same company responsible for the catchy theme tune of The Smiler."

"A secret language of runes was specifically created for Wicker Man. See if you can decode the Beornen's messages as you make your way through the queue."

The Mirror is seeking a response from the theme park regarding this story.
