Richard Madeley was deeply moved during a touching Channel 5 documentary that paid tribute to his and Judy Finnigan's remarkable careers in television. The Good Morning Britain presenter fondly looked back on his career, starting from his early days at Granada to hosting This Morning.

However, it was his recollection of taking over Sir Terry Wogan's Radio 2 show after the legendary broadcaster's death in 2016 that brought Richard to tears. He told viewers: "None of us saw this coming," as he described the live broadcast moment, which marked the significant loss felt globally when Wogan passed away at the age of 77.

Eight years later, the intensity of Richard's emotions was still evident. At home, Judy provided comfort as he spoke about the intimidating experience of filling the shoes of such a broadcasting titan.

During the documentary, Richard reflected: "It was all very emotional. It went fine, and the guests spoke beautifully, so I didn't have to do much, thankfully," as reported by the Mirror. As the programme concluded, he remembered looking into the gallery filled with silent Radio 2 staff, presenters, the head of the station, and producers.

With emotion, he said: "I just remember thinking, 'I don't think I let Terry down there'."

During an emotional segment, Judy offered her support to Richard, telling him: "You did very well."

On the show, Richard recounted a charming story from when they first started working together, saying: "I was sitting at my desk when this hand appeared on my shoulder and I looked up at this face and Judy said, 'Hi, I'm your Mummy' and I thought 'Whaaaaat? '"

He explained that at Granada, it was customary for a new person to be assigned a 'mum' or 'dad' to help them get acquainted with the place. Despite being married since 1986, Richard revealed that Granada was initially reluctant to let them work together until a charity event in 1988 changed their minds, leading to their iconic partnership as presenters on This Morning.
