Boy, 13, arrested after axes, sword and knife seized in Nottingham

Police searched a group after seeing them loitering outside a garage

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after police seized a sword, two axes and a knife from a suspect during a routine search in Carrington. Officers from the Sherwood neighbourhood team saw a group loitering near a garage on Tuesday, October 15 at around 5.15pm.

The group was searched and the weapons were found. A lock knife was retrieved from a pocket, while the sword and two axes were in a rucksack on the floor.

The weapons were seized, and a 13-year-old boy was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possessing knives and offensive weapons in public.

Inspector Paul Ferguson, neighbourhood inspector for the City North area, said: “This incident should serve as a great example of exactly why our officers go out on patrol and why this is such an effective method of helping tackle crime.

“By being out in the community as they were, our Sherwood team were able to spot what they believed to be suspicious behaviour and then immediately follow it up. This ultimately resulted in a bag full of weapons – including a sword and multiple axes – being discovered by our officers, and these have now been taken out of harm’s way.

“Let me make this absolutely clear – there is no reason whatsoever for anyone to have any of these types of weapons in their possession out in the public. This will not be tolerated, and anyone suspected of carrying a knife or any other weapon, will find themselves placed under arrest.

“Despite detaining a suspect in this incident, our inquiries are still very much ongoing to try and understand exactly what happened here.
