Coronation Street's Sarah Platt was left fuming with Daniel Osbourne after Bethany Platt was left in intensive care following her surgery in Turkey as fans were left baffled

Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien has spoken out about her character Sarah Platt's feelings for Daniel Osbourne, following backlash from fans over her recent outburst. In the ITV soap, viewers saw Sarah distraught after discovering her daughter was in intensive care in Turkey, where she had travelled for work.

Debbie Webster had informed Bethany of the opportunity, explaining that a friend of hers, who is the CEO of a cosmetic surgery company, needed someone to write an advertorial for their new facility in Turkey. Initially, Bethany declined the offer, but her boyfriend Daniel persuaded her to reconsider.

Unbeknownst to her family, Bethany decided to undergo surgery herself after feeling insecure upon seeing Daniel with his ex-fiancée Daisy Midgeley. Daniel was then devastated to receive a call informing him that Bethany was in intensive care due to sepsis following a botched surgery.

In the episode aired on Wednesday, September 25, Sarah arrived in Turkey to be with Bethany, only to be horrified when Daniel told her that Bethany's travel insurance wouldn't cover her medical bills because she hadn't disclosed her plans for surgery, and that the hospital could detain her until the bills were paid.

Sarah turned against Daniel following her discovery that he was preoccupied with his ex Daisy, rather than being available for Bethany before her surgery. Despite being urged to explain his actions, Daniel remained silent about his private discussion with Daisy, further infuriating Sarah as she learnt more about Bethany’s health issues, reports the Manchester Evening News.

"She is the most beautiful girl, but somehow she didn't think she was good enough. She was insecure about her body, and that's your fault," Sarah lashed out at Daniel before breaking down in tears and sending him back to Weatherfield without permitting a final goodbye to Bethany. The storyline sparked an outcry among Corrie fans on social media who felt it was unfair to blame Daniel.

Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah, elaborated on the strained dynamic between her character and Daniel, portrayed by Rob Mallard. When asked whether Sarah approves of Bethany and Daniel's relationship, O'Brien shared: "No, I don't think she does like them together. I think Sarah holds her tongue a lot, even from day dot, because Daniel got with Bethany around the time that his partner Sinead died, and he was clearly not over her and left Bethany in a bad way. I think she's always held her reservations about him."

Tina opened up about her character's behaviour saying: "I think she's just lashing out. She's really angry about the fact that Sarah believes there's potentially something going on between him and Daisy because she's overheard a few things but can't get to the bottom of it. She's angry with Daniel, but I don't think she would ever hold him responsible for Bethany choosing to get liposuction because at the end of the day, Bethany's a grown woman, and she makes her own decisions."
