Gary Lineker grits his teeth as Alan Shearer zeroes in on Nottingham Forest man ‘in form of his life’

Alan Shearer believes Chris Wood is “in the form of his life” at Nottingham Forest.

The striker hit a double to fire the Reds to a 3-1 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League on Friday night, taking his league tally for the season so far to an impressive seven goals in nine matches. He is currently the third top scorer in the top-flight behind only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (11 goals) and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (eight goals).

Forest’s win over the Foxes was analysed on Match of the Day, with host - and Leicester fan - Gary Lineker saying: “What a win for Forest, he says through gritted teeth!”

Shearer zeroed in on Wood’s two goals, adding: “He’s in the form of his life. He’s in the place where you’re not hoping you’re going to score goals, you actually know you’re going to go out and score goals.

“He’s just full of confidence and scored two very different goals.”

Wood arrowed a low shot into the bottom right corner of the net after swivelling inside the penalty area for his first goal against Leicester, and then beat City defender Wout Faes to a ball over the top to send a looping header over goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to double his tally.

Analysing his first goal, Shearer said: “The movement first of all to go in there and then the touch, swivel, turn and everything else and to wrap his foot around it the way he did. No other thought, knows exactly where he is.

“Not even one thought of can he pass it. It’s getting his shot away and why shouldn’t he with the form he’s in.”

And on his second goal, Shearer added: “He’s just too strong for Wout Faes and his awareness of where he is and where the goalkeeper is and what he has to do. He’s too strong and too good for Faes and then to just guide it over the goalkeeper like that.

“It’s a great feeling for him, for the goals, and certainly for Forest the form that they’re in as well.”
