Apple issues 'important' update to millions with users urged to check their iPhones

Apple says the update should solve some security issues

Apple has rolled out an 'important' update, and iPhone users are advised to install it promptly. The tech titan from the United States has released iOS 18.0.

1, which addresses a slew of bug fixes and patches some security vulnerabilities on Apple devices. "This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone," Apple remarked in its Software Update notes

One particular flaw concerned how Audio messages in Messages could capture snippets of audio prior to the microphone indicator becoming active. Another issue, acknowledged by Apple, might even result in a user's stored passwords being read out by the VoiceOver feature.

The update also rectifies a problem affecting touchscreen responsiveness on the latest iPhone 16 models, as well as sorts out camera, messaging and performance glitches, reports the Mirror

Key features of iOS 18.0. 01 include:

  • Resolving temporary unresponsive touch screens under certain scenarios on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models.
  • Fixing a freezing issue when recording macro mode video using the Ultra Wide camera in 4K with HDR off on iPhone 16 Pro models.
  • Preventing unexpected quitting of Messages when responding with a shared Apple Watch face.
  • Enhancing performance potentially affected by a memory allocation issue on some iPhone models.

To secure your device against these cited issues, go to the Settings menu, select General, and tap Software Update.

You should be able to see the iOS 18.0. 1 update, which can either be installed straight away or scheduled for an overnight installation.

The update is approximately 500MB in size, so ensure you have sufficient data if you're planning to download it while on the go - otherwise, it might be more convenient to install when you're connected to a broadband network.
