The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Nottinghamshire as meteorologists predict flooding and travel disruption. The national weather service has announced a yellow warning for rain between 5pm on Thursday, September 26 and 10am on Friday, September 27, with the impacted area of the UK including most of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

It is predicted heavy rain will bring the potential for some flooding and disruption to transport, according to the Met Office. Some locations may see up to 20-30 mm of rain in two to three hours and perhaps 40-60 mm in four to six hours, which combined with the recent wet weather could flood homes and roads.

The weather experts said there was a small chance that homes and businesses could be damaged by flooding, with the deluge possibly leading to difficult driving conditions and road closures. Some communities could be cut off by these flooded roads, they added, and there is a "small chance" of fast flowing or deep flood water causing danger to life.

There is also a "slight" chance that homes and businesses could suffer power cuts, while those travelling on train and bus services could be impacted by delays and cancellations. Those within the warning zone, which encompasses most of Nottinghamshire apart from a slither of its eastern border with Derbyshire, have been asked to check if their property is at risk of flooding.

The Met Office has said those living in places susceptible to flooding should consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit. It also advised people to avoid delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, and amending travel plans if necessary.

A spokesperson added: "Whilst some areas will miss the worst, areas of heavy, showery rain are expected to become widespread across a swathe of England and Wales during Thursday evening and on into Friday morning. Given the recent very wet weather, this will bring the potential for further flooding and transport disruption."
