Motorists can reduce their fuel costs by up to 30% this winter by following four simple tips that drivers often overlook. Howard Cox, the founder of FairFuel UK, has encouraged drivers to understand that "achieving the best possible fuel consumption rests firmly in their hands".

He stated: "Up to 30 per cent lower fill-up costs can be achieved if common sense practical approaches are adhered to."

Drivers are advised to maintain tyre pressures within the recommended range and keep oil levels topped up. Regular car cleaning and removal of roof racks is also suggested as unnecessary weight can lead to increased fuel consumption.

Howard explained: "Remove the boy racer from your psyche. Don't idle in traffic jams; switch off when stationary in traffic."

"Brake and accelerate gently and keep the speed constant. When slowing down, remain in gear as long as possible.", reports Birmingham Live.

He further added: "Regarding the fuel, use the best and most reputable brands with widely available additives that lower emissions and improve consumption."

In a warning to Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Sainsbury's motorists, Howard said: "Oh, don't fill up your tank full, just enough for the journeys you need to complete."

It was also announced that Fuel Duty will not increase next year, after Chancellor Rachel Reeves decided to maintain the freeze on the tax.

Fuel Duty impacts both car owners buying fuel and individuals heating their homes. This tax has remained unchanged for over 10 years, with a freeze from 2012 until 2022 followed by a 5p cut in March 2022 amid rising pump prices after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Labour Party Chancellor Rachel Reeves remarked that raising Fuel Duty next year would be the "wrong choice" and stated she would uphold the current freeze along with the temporary 5p reduction for an additional year.
