Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis charged as 'improper' allegation made

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis charged by FA after Reds' controversial defeat to Fulham

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association.

The Greek is accused of “improper behaviour” around the City Ground tunnel area after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham. The Reds were left fuming after the game as a controversial spot-kick made the difference for the visitors while two penalty shouts for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were not given.

A statement by the FA said: “Nottingham Forest’s Evangelos Marinakis has been charged with misconduct following their Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday, 28 September. It’s alleged that the behaviour of Evangelos Marinakis around the tunnel area after the final whistle was improper. He has until Monday, 7 October, to respond.”

Forest’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season came to an end with that defeat to the Cottagers. Raul Jimenez scored the only goal of the game after Murillo was deemed to have fouled Andreas Pereira.

However, the hosts were angry that challenges on Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga went unpunished by referee Josh Smith. As a result, senior officials at the club were understood to be growing increasingly frustrated with the recent standard of officiating.

Head coach Nuno said afterwards: “We all want peace and for things to continue well; to not have to speak about the referees. But it was bad, wasn’t it?

“In Fulham’s box we had the situations with T and Anthony. They (the officials) checked and looked, but they don’t have the same opinion as we do. We just have to hope that for the next game we are not talking about referees.

“Let’s try to avoid (talking about officials) and give the referees peace. I think they are trying to improve, but today was not the best day.”

Nuno and Morgan Gibbs-White are already facing an FA charge on the back of last month’s 2-2 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion. Both were sent off at the Amex Stadium and are alleged to have “acted in an improper manner” and/or “used abusive and/or insulting words” towards the officials.
