‘They Came Together’ Cast to Reunite for 10th Anniversary Screening at Vidiots in Los Angeles

Exclusive: Amy Poehler, Ed Helms, David Wain, Melanie Lynskey, and Cobie Smulders will be on hand for a celebration of Wain's cult rom-com parody.

Fans of David Wain and Michael Showalter’s “They Came Together” will have a chance to celebrate the cult comedy’s 10th anniversary with a special screening and Q&A at Vidiots Foundation in Los Angeles on November 19. IndieWire can exclusively announce that the special screening will feature Wain, Poehler, Ed Helms, Melanie Lynskey, and Cobie Smulders in attendance. “They Came Together” composer Craig Wedren will also open the show with a musical performance.

Released in 2014, “They Came Together” saw Wain and Showalter reuniting with their “Wet Hot American Summer” stars Poehler and Rudd for a parody that applied the silly absurdism of their landmark summer camp movie to the rom-com genre. Lampooning classic New York rom-coms like “You’ve Got Mail,” the film stars Poehler as an independent candy store operator who inexplicably falls in love with Rudd’s corporate raider who is determined to drive her shop out of business. The film, which unfolds over the course of a single dinner in which the now-happy couple tells their unlikely story, has steadily built a passionate following among comedy lovers since premiering at Sundance in 2014.

“I’m thrilled that this tiny little movie we made has continued to connect with people over time, and can’t believe it’s already been ten years!” Wain said in a statement to IndieWire. “Another thing that we were aware of to some degree when we were making it but really has become more clear with some distance: The setting of the film, New York City, plays such a pivotal role, that it’s almost like another character in the movie.”
