Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried to Star in Paul Feig’s ‘The Housemaid’ Adaptation

Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried will star in director Paul Feig‘s film adaptation of “The Housemaid,” the novel by Freida McFadden, set up at Lionsgate.

Sweeney’s deal has closed and Seyfried is in final negotiations for the psychological thriller film based on the bestselling 2022 book.

In the film, Sweeney will play Millie, a struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to upscale, wealthy couple Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew. Millie soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.

Todd Lieberman will produce for Hidden Pictures, and Carly Kleinbart Elter will oversee the project. Feigco’s Feig and Laura Fischer are also producing, and Sweeney and Seyfried will executive produce alongside Alex Young and McFadden.

My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.”

Erin Westerman, co-president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, added, “Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina — they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.”

Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley are overseeing for Lionsgate; Robert Melnik negotiated the deals for the studio. 

“The Housemaid” has been on the NYT Bestseller list for now 75 weeks and counting, and has sold 3.6 million copies in English alone — the book has been translated into 40 languages.

There are few actresses busier these days than Sydney Sweeney. The “Euphoria” starlet this year has appeared in “Madame Web,” “Immaculate,” and Ron Howard’s festival film “Eden.” She’s currently in production on an untitled biopic on boxer Christy Martin, and she’ll soon return for the third season of “Euphoria.”

Seyfried appeared in “I Don’t Understand You,” which premiered at SXSW this year, and will be seen in Atom Egoyan’s upcoming “Seven Veils.”

Feig most recently directed “Jackpot!” for Amazon Studios, and he’s also directing and producing a sequel to his 2018 film “A Simple Favor.”
