3 people sent to hospital after vehicles crash into a ditch in Markham

Three people are in hospital after a two-vehicle collision in Markham.

Provincial police say the crash occurred on Highway 48 near Major Mackenzie Drive just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

Officers arrived at the scene and found two vehicles in a ditch.

A male driver and a female passenger from one vehicle both suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to trauma centres by ambulance.

The driver of the second vehicle – a male from Markham – was also transported to hospital with minor injuries.

All lanes of Highway 48 were closed north of Major Mackenzie Drive until Saturday morning and reopened around 6:15 a.m.

There was no indication as to what may have led up to the crash or if any charges are pending.
