Mississauga man accused of assaulting elderly strangers in two separate attacks

Police have arrested one man who is accused of attacking two elderly strangers in a Mississauga park.

Peel Regional Police say a 73-year-old man was taking an afternoon stroll on September 19 near the Applewood Hills Trail when a man came up behind him and allegedly struck him with a weapon before fleeing the scene.

A similar incident was reported to police on Friday after a 77-year-old man was allegedly assaulted with a weapon in the same area near Bloor Street and Dixie Road.

Both men were treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while police searched for the suspect.

On Saturday, officers announced the arrest of 32-year-old Marcin Golebiowski. He’s facing three charges, including aggravated assault, disobeying a court order and assault with a weapon.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Police believe he is responsible for both attacks.
