A man from just outside London, Ont. was arrested following an alleged crime spree that included stealing his Uber driver’s vehicle during a traffic stop and attempting to disarm a police officer.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) tells 680News Radio that local authorities were notified of an incident on Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) east of Dixie Road at around 5 p.m. on Sunday.

It’s alleged the accused made threats, leading to the Uber driver contacting authorities. Responding officers conducted a traffic stop, during which the suspect allegedly stole the ride-share vehicle and fled from police.

Investigators believed that the threat made by the suspect was serious, and a Toronto hospital was briefly placed into lockdown on Sunday.

At around 6 p.m., OPP officers were called to Cawthra Road, south of the QEW, for reports of a collision involving the suspect and the originally stolen vehicle. The accused then stole a second car from the scene and seriously injured the driver.

Officers with the Toronto Police Service (TPS) assisted and located the suspect a short time later. He was arrested and, during a struggle, allegedly attempted to disarm a police officer. The suspect was treated for minor injuries.

Justin Hack, 22, from Denfield, Ont., faces several charges, including uttering threats causing death, theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer and two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, among other related offences.

The Toronto-bound QEW ramp to Cawthra Road was closed for several hours for the police investigation.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and was expected to appear in court on Monday.
