Srinagar, Nov 06: Amid uproar by the BJP, the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution demanding the restoration of the special status.

The assembly passed by voice vote resolution asking Centre to hold dialogue with elected representatives for restoration of special status.

As promised by the National Conference in their manifesto, the resolution was moved by the Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Singh Choudhary demanding the restoration of J-K’s special status and constitutional guarantees, which safeguarded the identity, culture, and rights of people of Jammu and Kashmir, and expresses concern over their unilateral removal.

It also urged the government of India to initiate dialogue with the elected representatives of people of Jammu and Kashmir for the restoration of special status.

The BJP MLAs came into the well of the house to protest the move, leading to uproar in the House. They were shouting slogans like ‘National Conference sharam karo (have some shame) and ‘Pakistani agenda nahi chalega’ after the Speaker passed the resolution with a voice vote.

Soon the speaker adjourned the House.
