Auto theft gang busted; vehicles seized

The Annapurneshwari Nagar Police have arrested two accused involved in a series of auto thefts across the city. The accused, Ammad Khan and Fairoz Pasha, residents of Sottenahalli, were caught after a complaint was filed by Harsha Kumaraswamy, a resident of Nagarbhavi, whose autorickshaw was stolen on August 23.

The accused, who had been targeting vehicles parked in front of houses, were involved in multiple thefts across Annapurneswarinagar, Chandra Layout, and Gnanabharati police station limits. Upon interrogation, the duo confessed to stealing two two-wheelers and three autorickshaws, with a combined worth of ₹3.25 lakh.

The seized vehicles have been handed over to their rightful owners.


Plan to plant IED at I-Day: Accused nabbed

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a 26-year-old man from Assam, identified as Girish Barua, also known as Gautam Baruah, in connection with a case involving the planting of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by the banned terrorist organization ULFA (I) across various locations in Assam.

Barua was arrested in Jigani, where he had been residing in a rented accommodation while working as a security guard for a private firm. The case, initiated by the NIA in Guwahati in September, relates to the placement of explosive devices as part of an armed protest against India’s Independence Day celebrations.

Barua was brought before the Special NIA Court in Bengaluru on Wednesday, where the court approved a transit remand for his transfer to the NIA Special Court in Guwahati.
