A head-on collision between a loaded lorry and an auto rickshaw near the Vidhana Soudha Coffee Board signal in the early hours of Saturday resulted in the death of a passenger, identified as Shalini. The incident occurred around 4 am when the auto, driven by Imran, was en route from Benson Town’s Chinnappa Garden to drop off passengers at Majestic.

According to police officers, the lorry reportedly jumped the red signal, crashing into the auto. Imran, the auto driver, was uninjured and described the chaotic scene, stating he had picked up passengers when the lorry barreled through the intersection. The collision left Shalini with severe injuries, and her body was later sent to Bowring Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Cubbon Park traffic police arrived at the scene to assess the situation and gather evidence. They were able to track down the lorry driver, who initially fled the scene. During interrogation, he revealed that he had been feeling sleepy and did not notice the traffic signal before the accident.

Gang attack fueled by old feud

A gang of around seven men broke into a house in the Kapila Nagar 4th Cross area and attacked three persons, resulting in serious injuries. The altercation stemmed from an ongoing feud between Narendra, known as Dasa, and Ramesh, referred to as Paitlu.

On the night of the attack, Narendra was hosting a party with five friends Baira, Vicky, Shivu, and Darshan—when Ramesh’s gang stormed in armed with knives.

The attackers targeted Narendra, who suffered a head injury, while his friends attempted to intervene and were also assaulted.

The violent confrontation was not unexpected, as there had been previous altercations between the two gangs. Just two days prior, Narendra had been visiting a friend, providing Ramesh’s gang an opportunity to retaliate.

The Rajagopal Nagar police have filed a case against six persons, including Ramesh, Sanket, Tejas, Manjunath, Dixit, and Arun.
