Heavy rain in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, traffic snarls seen at various locations

Bhubaneswar: Sudden heavy rain in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has affected life. Traffic snarls seen at various locations in the twin cities. Heavy rain, thundershower with one or two intense spells of rain affected some parts of twin city areas area of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar city.

Occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption was witnessed during intense spells. The MeT has warned to avoid movement during intense spells of rain. Yellow warning has been issued by the MeT.

According to the weather department, the lightning and rainfall activity will continue till September 26. A yellow warning for heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) has been issued. It is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Advisory Issued:

Districts under yellow warning to shall keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality such as:

  • In urban areas, low-lying areas may have water logging, and roads/drains May be submerged under water.
  • In case of very heavy rain, people of low-lying areas may be shifted to safer Locations temporarily.
  • Urban local bodies must keep the drains/stormwater channels de-congested, and adequate de-watering pumps may be deployed as per requirement.
  • People may be advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter.
  • During the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow Traffic advisories in urban areas.
  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded may be reported immediately to this office.
  • Submit report on damage, if occurred due to thunderstorm, whirlwind, Hailstorm, lightning and heavy rainfall immediately.
