Cyclone DANA: Red alert issued for rain to 7 districts of Odisha, watch

Bhubaneswar: Due to the impact of cyclone DANA, rain and wind have started in various parts of coastal Odisha. The amount of rain will increase from today. It will rain heavily in coastal districts today.

Red alert has been issued to 7 districts for today. Red warning has been issued to Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts.

Similarly, orange warning has been issued to 5 districts for heavy to very heavy rain. These districts are Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar.

A red warning has been issued to 4 districts for heavy rain tomorrow. IMD has issued a red warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.

Similarly, orange warning has been issued for Jajpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts for tomorrow. In the districts where red warning has been issued, there may be rainfall of 7 to 20 cm.

As an Impact of the cyclone the following have been expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khorda, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal districts. Hence, people should remain alert accordingly.

Major damage to thatched houses/ huts. Roof tops may blow off. Unattached metal sheets may fly.

Minor damage to power and communication lines.

Major damage to Kutcha and some damage to Pucca roads. Flooding of escape routes.

Possibilities of damage to vulnerable structure. Breaking of tree branches and uprooting of trees.

Moderate damage to banana and papaya trees. Large dead limbs blown from trees.

Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation and wind.

Damage to embankments/ salt pans.

Localized Flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas and closure of underpasses mainly in urban areas of the above region.

Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.

Disruption of traffic in major cities and roadways due to water logging in roads an poor visibility due to heavy rain leading to increased travel time and incidents

Localized Landslides/Mudslides/landslips/mud slips/land sinks/mud sinks.

Likely disruption of marine and inland water transportation like small boats and trawlers. It may lead to riverine flooding in some river catchments.
