India captain Rohit Sharma suffered a rare failure in the Chennai Test match. Playing against Bangladesh on September 20, Rohit got out for single-digit scores in both innings. Both times, Rohit lost his wicket to the Bangladesh pace attack, first against Hasan Mahmud and then against Taskin Ahmed.

The India captain got out to excellent balls in both innings of the Test. This was only the fourth time that Rohit was dismissed for single-digit scores in both innings of the game. The other three instances are vs Sri Lanka in Galle 2015, vs South Africa in Delhi 2015 and recently against South Africa in Centurion 2023.

In the first innings of the Bangladesh Test match, Rohit was outdone by Hasan Mahmud's inswinger which caught him on the pads, and in the second innings, Rohit was squared up by an outswinger from Taskin Ahmed which found his edge.

The fans on social media were sympathetic towards Rohit for getting out to two top deliveries. The India captain returns to Test cricket for the first time since March when India played England. In the final Test match in that series, Sharma had scored a hundred in Dharamsala. He had done well in that series, having scored 400 runs.
