Satish Sail's position as an MLA was also revoked due to a prison sentence that exceeded two years, under the provisions of Article 190(3) of the Constitution.

A Bengaluru court on Saturday sentenced Congress MLA from Karnataka's Karwar, Satish Sail, to seven years of imprisonment after finding him guilty of fraud in the Belkeri iron ore disappearance case.

Six others have also been awarded a seven-year jail term in the Iron Ore export case.

Following the sentence by the Special Court for Public Representatives, Sail's position as an MLA was also revoked due to a prison sentence that exceeded two years, under the provisions of Article 190(3) of the Constitution.

On Thursday, the special court had declared Sail guilty in the illegal iron ore export case, ordering immediate arrest of all the accused and had deferred the sentencing to Saturday.

Sail, along with Forest officer Mahesh Biliye and Mallikarjuna Shipping were among those found guilty due to their involvement in the fraud case.

The case pertains to the illegal transportation of over 11,000 metric tonnes of seized iron ore without official permission.

The court heard the matter after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had conducted an inquiry into the matter and filed a chargesheet.
