During her campaign in Wayanad’s Kalpetta on Monday, October 28, Priyanka Gandhi shared a personal story to show her commitment to the constituency.
Priyanka recounted a memory of her son’s time at boarding school. “When my son was 13, I went to leave him at a boarding school, and I cried for days as it felt like my heart had been taken away,” she said. Sharing the principal’s request to visit her son monthly, Priyanka explained that her frequent visits eventually led the principal to humorously request she come less often.
“All of these people are telling you ‘she will not come,’” but she promised that she will keep coming, despite Rahul’s absence.
She assured her support in place of her brother Rahul, who vacated the seat after winning in Rae Bareli. "I just want to say I am here," she said, adding, "I know Rahul is gone. But in spirit, he stays with you all."
Earlier in the day, while en route to Meenangadi, Priyanka met with a differently-abled student eagerly awaiting her. The brief encounter was filled with encouragement as Priyanka wished the student luck in his exams,
This marks Priyanka’s second visit to Wayanad after filing her nomination on October 22. She led a roadshow in Kalpetta attended by Congress leaders, including her mother Sonia Gandhi, brother Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The Congress leaders joined with state representatives to bolster the campaign for the by-election, which has been scheduled for November 13.
Wayanad’s by-election, part of a broader series of upcoming by-polls, was called after Rahul Gandhi vacated his seat. November 13 will see nearly 50 by-elections held across various states, including the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, with the second phase on November 20, followed by the Maharashtra polls. The results for all elections, including Wayanad, will be announced on November 23.
