Man killed after being hit by Mercedes in Thane, driver on the run

According to the police, the incident occurred when Darshan Hegde was returning home after purchasing food. The Mercedes, reportedly heading towards the Nashik Highway, hit him and fled the scene.

A 21-year-old man was killed after being struck by a Mercedes in Maharashtra's Thane, the police said on Monday.

The incident took place in the late hours of October 20. According to the police, the incident occurred when Darshan Hegde was returning home after purchasing food. The Mercedes, allegedly heading towards the Nashik Highway, hit him and fled the scene.

The car was later seized by the police. However, the accused driver, identified as Abhijit Nair, remains at large.

Authorities are investigating the case and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the driver. However, several CCTV cameras in the vicinity were allegedly non-functional at the time of the incident.

The accident took place close to the residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Thane.

Similar incidents have been reported in high-end areas of Maharashtra recently, where luxury cars have been involved in cases of hit-and-run.

In May this year, a couple in Pune died after being hit by a Porsche driven by a 17-year-old boy, son of a renowned builder in the city.

In another case, a woman was killed in Mumbai after being hit by a BMW. The car was allegedly being driven by Mihir Shah, 24, son of a Shiv Sena leader.
