  • Arshdeep has taken 28 wickets in T20Is in 2024
  • The first T20I against South Africa is on November 8

Arshdeep Singh is on the verge of a massive record for India in T20Is. The left-arm fast bowler has the chance of making the record for most wickets by an Indian bowler in Men’s T20Is in a calendar year. In 14 matches this year, Arshdeep picked up 28 wickets at an economy rate of 7.14 with his best figures of 4-0-9-4 against the United States of America in the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar currently holds the record after he picked up 37 wickets from 32 matches at an economy rate of 6.98. Arshdeep is also second in the list after he took 33 wickets from 21 games at an economy rate of 8.17. The speedster will have a chance to go past Bhuvneshwar’s record in India’s upcoming three-match T20I series against South Africa.

In six T20Is, Arshdeep has taken 10 wickets at an average of 18.30 with his best figures of 4-0-32-3 back in September 2022 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Arshdeep is currently fourth in the list of most wickets by an Indian in Men’s T20Is. In 56 matches, he has taken 87 wickets at an economy rate of 8.28 with two four-wicket hauls to his name. If he takes 10 or more scalps in the series, he will become India’s leading wicket-taker in Men’s T20Is.

Arshdeep, who made his international debut on India’s tour of England in 2022, also needs 13 wickets to become only the second Indian after Deepti Sharma to take 100 wickets in T20Is. He has also played eight ODIs and taken 12 wickets.

The first T20I is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 8 at the Kingsmead in Durban. Gqeberha, Centurion and Johannesburg will host the remaining three T20Is on November 10, 13 and 15 respectively.
