  • M4 processor is expected to significantly boost the performance of Apple desktops
  • The new launch is unlikely to feature a design change

Apple has a lot planned for the coming week. After the release of iPad Mini 7 on October 15, the eyes are set on the release of next gen Macs. The rumour mill for Apple launches in the coming week has been churning for quite sometime now, including the speculation of Apple Intelligence. Now, giving these rumours a rest, Apple has indicated that the M4 Macs will be rolled out next week. Apple’s Grek Joswiak took to X, posting about the upcoming launch. He stated, “Mac your calenders! We have an exciting week of announcements ahead, starting on Monday morning. Stay tunedâ€æ”

But this is not it. While Apple is yet to confirm the roll-out date of Apple Intelligence’s first wave, the speculation is that the much awaited features will arrive on October 28. iOS 18.1 will bring several new AI-powered features and a few more customisation upgrades.

M4 Macs: What to expect?

Rumours suggest Apple will unveil multiple M4-powered Macs, including an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. Additionally, an all-new Mac Mini is expected in M4 and M4 Pro variants, alongside an upgraded iMac with M4 processor. These updates will bring significant performance boosts to Apple's desktop and laptop lineup, expanding the M4 family's reach.

Rumours indicate Apple's upcoming MacBook Pro and iMac will prioritise performance upgrades via M4 processors, with no significant design revamp. Conversely, the Mac Mini is expected to undergo a radical redesign, shrinking its footprint to become Apple's smallest desktop computer to date. Reportedly, the new Mac Mini will approximate the size of an Apple TV, boasting a compact and space-efficient form factor.

This overhaul will cater to users seeking a powerful, minimalist desktop solution. The M4 processor upgrade will enhance performance across the Mac lineup. While the MacBook Pro and iMac will retain their familiar designs, the revamped Mac Mini will offer an exciting new option for those valuing compact design and potent processing.

The upcoming entry-level M4 Macs are expected to arrive with upgraded RAM of 16GB, instead of 8GB. This will allow for a better performance for Apple Intelligence features.

MacBook Air M4 in early 2025

Apple is planning to launch a new MacBook Air device featuring the latest M4 chip by early 2025, according to Bloomberg. Production of the updated models is expected to commence soon, with the launch likely to take place between January and March next year.

The previous MacBook Air was updated in March 2023 with the M3 chip, and Apple had also introduced a 15-inch variant powered by the M2 chip in June 2023.
