Actor Vijay Varma recently opened up about how his portrayal of negative characters has affected the way people perceive him in real life.

Speaking at the launch of SCREEN in Mumbai, he revealed that "pretty girls and their mothers" have expressed being frightened of him, a reaction that has left him unsettled. Known for his villainous roles in films like Darlings and Pink, as well as the OTT series Dahaad, Vijay traced the origins of this public perception back to his role in Pink.

Vijay recounted a experience from an all-women screening of Pink, where he met several actresses he admired, including singer Sunidhi Chauhan. After the screening, which left many attendees emotional, he tried to console Sunidhi, only to be told, "Don’t come near me. I’m very scared of you." Vijay described the incident as a pivotal moment in his acting journey, followed by praise from the film’s director for his impactful performance.

Vijay’s breakthrough role came in Gully Boy, where he portrayed Moeen, earning widespread attention. He has since gained a reputation for intense and complex characters in projects like She, Mirzapur, Darlings, and Dahaad (2023), in which he portrayed a serial killer. His ability to portray dark roles has solidified his status as a rising star in the industry.

Most recently, Vijay played a key role in the Netflix miniseries IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, based on the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814. The series is inspired by the book Flight into Fear: A Captain’s Story, with Vijay portraying Captain Devi Sharan, the pilot at the centre of the crisis.

On the personal front, Vijay Varma is currently in a relationship with actor Tamannaah Bhatia.
