BCCI's outgoing secretary Jay Shah made a huge announcement as the wait for retention rules ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2025 continues. He introduced a Rs 7.5 lakh match fee per game for the players. In order to acknowledge the consistency and handwork put in by the players, they will be awarded an additional Rs 1.05 crore alongside their contract amount. This amount will be provided for those players who will feature in all the matches in a season of the Indian Premier League. The BCCI allocated a match fee of Rs 12.60 crore to each franchise in what is being seen as a great incentive for the players.
"In a historic move to celebrate consistency and champion outstanding performances in the #IPL, we are thrilled to introduce a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per game for our cricketers! A cricketer playing all league matches in a season will get Rs. 1.05 crores in addition to his contracted amount. Each franchise will allocate INR 12.60 crores as match fees for the season! This is a new era for the #IPL and our players!" Jay Shah tweeted.

Will this incentive be beneficial?
A new chapter is unfolding in the IPL, which is also known as the 'cash-rich league', as the players are set to get richer. The BCCI continued its efforts to draw more interest among the players in the game as they introduced a new incentive scheme. This step comes amid many players, especially the overseas stars, leaving the IPL midway because of international commitments. Additionally, this will help young players who are picked at a base price. Even if they are contracted at an amount of Rs 20 lakh, they will get more than a crore if they manage to play all the games.
Earlier this year, the BCCI announced that Test cricketers who play at least 75% of the scheduled matches in a season will receive an extra Rs45 lakh per game as a reward. This meant a player appearing in 10 Tests in one season could earn an additional Rs 4.50 crore, apart from their usual Rs1.5 crore match fee (Rs15 lakh per game).
This incentive was part of BCCI’s efforts to prioritise Test cricket. Players also receive a fixed annual salary through their central contracts, ensuring they are well-compensated for their commitment to the format. A similar rewarding scheme has been announced for IPL ths time.
