Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday busted a new militant outfit believed to be an offshoot of the banned organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), officials said.

The Counter-Intelligence Wing (CIK) of the J&K police conducted a major operation, carrying out raids across multiple districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Kulgam, Budgam, Anantnag, and Pulwama, the officials said.

According to the police, they dismantled an outfit called 'Tehreek Labaik Ya Muslim' (TLM), which is believed to be an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The outfit was reportedly being operated by a Pakistani terrorist handler known as 'Baba Hamas,' officials said.

The raids are still underway, and further details are awaited, they added.

This anti-terror operation occurred a day after another outfit of the Lashkar, the Resistance Front (TRF), reportedly claimed responsibility for an attack in Ganderbal district that killed a doctor and six migrant workers on Sunday.

According to security forces, the TRF chief Sheikh Sajjad Gul, a resident of Srinagar, was the mastermind of the attack. The group has been targeting Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris for a long time, sources said. In 2022, the NIA announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh each for information leading to the arrest of Gul and three others.

On October 30, the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a joint operation, caught two terrorists who were involved in multiple attacks in the region. They were captured from Surankote in Poonch district and were identified as Abdul Aziz and Manwar Hussain.

The Union Territory has witnessed multiple terror attacks in the past few months, some of which claimed the lives of security personnel. Many terrorists have also been shot dead in gunfights.
