India Women congratulated the India men’s team for winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title. On Saturday, June 29, Rohit Sharma and Co. beat South Africa by 7 runs in the final at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown Barbados. The women’s team lauded India Men prior to Day 3 of the ongoing women’s Test against South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The final turned out to be a nail-biter, with both teams undefeated in the tournament. India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, batted first and managed to post a total of 176 for 7, largely due to Virat Kohli's impressive 76 off 59 balls. Kohli, who announced his retirement from T20 internationals after the match, played a crucial role in India's win.

South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, looked strong in their chase, but a stunning catch by Suryakumar Yadav in the final over sealed the win for India. This victory marked India's second T20 World Cup title and their first since 2007, ending a 13-year drought in major ICC trophies.

India Women also dominate

As far as Harmanpreet Kaur’s women are concerned, they have also dominated the Proteas of late. After opting to bat first, India put up a huge score of 603 for 6 (declared) on the board. Shafali Verma’s 205 and Smriti Mandhana’s 149 laid the platform for them.

Jemimah Rodrigues, skipper Harmanpreet and Richa Ghosh scored 55, 69 and 86 to take India past the 600-run mark. Delmi Tucker was the pick of the South African bowlers with figures of 26-1-141-2.

Thereafter, Sneh Rana picked up 8 wickets for 77 and helped India bowl their opponents out for 266 in their first innings. Deepti Sharma picked up the other 2 wickets. India also enforced the follow on after taking a huge lead of 339 runs in their first innings.
