The iPhone 17 series is coming at the end of next year and leaks about next-gen iPhones have already started surfacing online. Now, a fresh leak hints at exciting changes in Apple’s 2025 lineup. According to some analysts, both the iPhone 17 Pro models and iPhone 17 Air will receive significant improvements, particularly in camera performance and design. Here is everything to know.

The latest reports from Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Tech Research, suggest that Apple will offer a 48-megapixel telephoto camera with the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, a substantial upgrade from the 12-megapixel telephoto lens found in the current iPhone 16 Pro models. The front camera on these new Pro models is also expected to remain at 12 megapixels, similar to the iPhone 16 Pro series.

Performance upgrades are also on the cards. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are rumoured to feature 12GB of RAM, which is a notable increase from the 8GB in the current Pro versions. This could improve the phone’s ability to handle multitasking and boost overall performance, particularly for AI-driven features. Additionally, Apple is said to be working on slimming down the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, made possible by smaller components for Face ID using a new "metalens" technology.

The screen sizes are expected to stay the same, with the iPhone 17 Pro featuring a 6.3-inch display and the Pro Max sticking with a 6.9-inch display. Both models are likely to be powered by Apple’s upcoming A19 Pro chip, which will be built using TSMC’s advanced 3nm manufacturing process, potentially offering faster speeds and better battery efficiency.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing aspects of the leaks is the iPhone 17 Air, which may replace the current iPhone Plus. The iPhone 17 Air, also being referred to as the iPhone 17 Slim, could feature a 6.6-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and the inclusion of Dynamic Island. It’s also expected to run on the A19 Bionic chip, like its Pro siblings, and possibly debut Apple’s first in-house 5G modem.

In terms of cameras, the iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to include a 48-megapixel rear camera, paired with a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, making it a significant step up for non-Pro models. The Air model is also expected to introduce a new design, potentially featuring an aluminium frame, marking a departure from previous iPhone designs.
